Do credit cards without balances affect your credit report?

Is it true that your credit is affected not only by the credit cards with balances but also those without balances??

Do credit cards without balances affect your credit report?

This is an evaluation after reading all the answers you were given.

First off *** do not close any of your credit card accounts. You need that history.***

All opened credit cards affect your credit score ! I agree with some answers that having a zero balance shows inactivity. So using them and paying them all off at the end of the month will not necessarily help your credit score.

What I suggest is putting a very very small balance on that card and make the minimum payments. Don%26#039;t even use 30% of the card. This will help you continue to earn a good credit score. Having a well round of credit card accounts with low balance that are paid on time will help you improve your credit score the most.

Your score will not be affected negatively by too much credit limit. The only way your score will decrease by too much credit limit is if you have A LOT of cards. (Like in the 20%26#039;s) The scoring system does not score you on your take home pay vs your credit limit. This is something a creditor might judge you own. (Remember when you applying for an account each creditor has their own criteria they are looking for.)

You will need a couple of MAJOR credit cards, and a few small revolving accounts. Please limit the department store accounts.

Yes, they impact both your credit score and your credit report. Your credit report lists all your open accounts, and your credit score can go up or down depending on different factors but applying for a new card and/or closing an account certainly can impact your score.

The credit report will show any credit card accounts that are open. However, I am pretty sure that have a zero balance on a credit card can only help your credit report.

No one should have a lot of credit card debt; that hurts the credit report.

Any credit card you have that is open, whether you have a balance on it or not, shows as an %26quot;open line of credit%26quot; which can either help or hurt your cause. You can be looked at as Overextended if you have too many open lines of credit based on your income.

Ok, everyone%26#039;s posted their answer on here, so now I%26#039;m going to post mine. Yes, credit cards w/o balances can affect your credit report, especially if you%26#039;re not using the account. If you%26#039;re not using it, the account doesn%26#039;t report any activity. The credit scoring system is designed to where it should be consistently used, but not overused. Anywhere up to 30% of your available credit is allowable. While it%26#039;s ideal to have a 0 balance, sometimes the activity from month to month on the account may or may not reflect on your report.

Your credit score is made up 35% payment history, 35% debt to income ratio and account longevity, and 30% for alias%26#039; previous addresses, and a number of other small things.

While a couple of open accounts with no balance helps you, the potential liability of you running wild and being able to max them out and over extend yourself does play a part in the debt to income ratio. Be sure to keep your oldest account open. If the interest rate is high, ask them to lower it because you have paid and have a 0 balance. If they won%26#039;t, tell them to close the account. They will quickly back up and drop the rates.

If you have several accounts open, close a couple of them. As a general rule you want to carry a balance on one card and keep one or two others paid off. Even if it%26#039;s groceries on week on a card and you pay it off the next day.

I have found one way to help re-establish is to use a credit card like a debit card and pay it online daily or weekly if your servicer allows multiple monthly payments. It keeps the account cycling and reporting positive.
