Any suggestions on how to put credit freeze on credit report?

Im sort of a victim of this identity theft and what a mess it is! I didnt know anyone can actually put their credit on freeze, got this information from http://www.newhorizon.org/Info/credit-fr...

Any suggestions on how to put credit freeze on credit report?

you can call Transunion, Equifax and Experian yourself to put on a credit freeze FOR FREE, you can do it by going thru an automated system w/ all 3 bureaus. It should not take too long. The %26quot;Hawk-alert%26quot; that%26#039;s what they called, will stay on for a year. By having a hawk alert on your credit will disable other people from using your information to open new credit line. Basically the credit card company will have to call and speak w/ you in person before granting any credit, so if it%26#039;s not you, no credit will be granted.

You can find phone # for all 3 bureaus via the internet. You can also request a free copy of your credit report as well to see if you have any accounts that you don%26#039;t recognized. I was a victim of identity theft 5 yrs ago so I took the same precautions.

Good luck!

Basically, if you want to freeze your credit you have to write to all the credit reporting agencies, such as Equifax and request a freeze. You usually have to pay to do this. It%26#039;s about $20. When you are ready to get credit you have to unfreeze the report. It%26#039;s a little bit of a hassle, but no-one will be able to get credit in your name again, and if they do, and they used one of the credit reporting agencies that you froze your credit with then that agency is liable, not you.
