yes by all means contact the creditor (in this case your medical billing creditor) and pay it off right away. Make them issue you a letter that you have paid it.

Then write a letter to the bureau and they should be able to take that collections off your credit report....this will help your FICO over the next 3months TRUST ME

--I work as a mortgage broker and fixing people%26#039;s credit report is what I do....it gets frastrating at times but it%26#039;s worth it

Getting the negative item off of your record is up to the company you owe the money to...I was successful in removing negative items by offering the full payment to a supervisor or manager in an office (if medical) or at a collection agency. They took my payment and in turn, removed the negative rating. Its a gamble...but good luck!

neg info in most states stay on your credit report for 7 years.

if you not looking for big credit now like mortgage or car loan- you can pay them now, but your credit score will go down , because the software the credit agencies uses will read this like new activity on negative account, so if you look for mortgage pay off this account in the last moment.

since %26#039;03, challenge it. then write an explanation to be added with your credit report (loss job etc).. it is better to make payments on this than to pay it off at once.. payments shows your commitment. also try a credit counseling service for more advice

There has to be something else on your credit 1 neg on your credit that is 3 years old is not going to affect it that much.

Yes call the company and ask them to delete if you pay it off in full and tell them you what a letter with them stating they will do this before you pay it off just incase they fail to do what they say you can take it upon yourself to send copies to the credit bureaus.

:)

Payments at this point are not a good thing better to be off totally or Paid/Collection if they refuse to totally take off, which I don%26#039;t think they are going to have a problem with.

Bianca is right- if you are concerned about raising your credit score, realize that any action on this account will show its activity as the present date, and in turn (since its been over 2 years since it occured) this will LOWER your score for probably the next 12 months. Your score may be improved more easily by paying down any credit cards (including department store accounts) to 50% or less of the limit.

If you apply for a mortgage, expect the lender to require the outstanding debt to be paid as a condition of making the loan.

Think about your question: Is it better to show that the bill was paid, even though it was paid late, or not paid at all? Would you rather collect your money late, or not at all? Pay the stupid thing. It won%26#039;t %26quot;fix%26quot; your credit, but it will look much better to potentinal creditors.

paying it now will probably not change it, call the people you owe it to and claim that you never received the bill - this is probably the best way to get out of it and let the creditor remove it
