Will a 'delinquency' on your credit report ruin your credit standing?

I was illegally and unlawfully charged $176 from a debt collector and now I can%26#039;t get a loan for a new car because of it. Even if this issue goes away, will my credit be affected by it for the long haul?

Generally, yes. If you can%26#039;t settle it with the collector, dispute it on your report if it is wrong. Delinquencies ruin credit fast. Resolve it.

If a judgement is filed against you it will never go off your credit even if you pay it. It will state satisified but will stay on there forever, even after 7 years. Put a statement in your credit file and I would pursue the 176 if it was charged illegally.
