How to resolve something wrong in my credit report?

This Yahoo thing seems very good and I am trying one more here.

In 2000,when I was a grad student in another state, apartment management firm charged me $600 for something that I was not liable for. There was small crack on the kitchen floor but they said it was created by me. However, there were lots of crack in the apartment since it was very old apartment. I even videotaped all crackes in my room. I tried to resolve the issue with them. But they didn%26#039;t want to even discuss about it and said that I need to pay for it.

After graduation and moving into California, I found later that they sent this to collection agency and my credit score is impacted badly with this $600 . $600 is not a big amount however,I won%26#039;t pay for this since I am not responsible for this. What should I do? Should I contact credit agency and explain this? My credit is very clean except this. However,I%26#039;d like to increase my score and I don%26#039;t want to have this in my credit history.

You could

a) send a letter and a copy of the video to the landlord / tenant board in the city that you lived in previously and see if there have been any previous complaints made against this landloard.

b)if you have plans to go back to the community you could take them to small claims court with this same evidence.

c)you could get some advice from a lawyer that deals with landlords. some of themwill give you a half hour of free advice

d) you can suck it up and recognize that some lessons in life are tough and $600 is a small price to pay for a good credit rating

I am not sure the rules and reg sup to date but you can file a dispute and they have x amount of days to prove you owe. Most will not in many cases. This from a credit union manager I knew.

Also if you have something on your credit and it about to hit 7 years (when it should be removed) companies sell your debt yes sell your debt to another company which renews the 7 years. What a BS loop hole anyway dispute these they will never have proof.

First you can file a %26#039;Dispute Report%26#039; with each of the three credit reporting bureaus: Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian. If you do this, each bureau must contact the one who put the bad mark there against you, and have them prove that it belongs there. This MAY solve some things for you. Then - you have a right to put a written statement from you right into your credit file. Ask each credit bureau about this. Credit scores are impersonal and they rely on what is in the credit reports. A potential lender should look at everything that is in the reports, and they should see your rebuttal statement concerning the crack(s) that you say you did not put there. Good Luck-!!
